Popular water activities have kicked off to an unfamiliar start in the Land of 10,000 lakes, as Minnesota’s Stay at Home Order’s extended to May 18. While the executive order does allow for safe boating and fishing, there are a few added restrictions and recommendations in place this season. When hitting the water, stay mindful of these additional outdoor recreation guidelines organized by Minnesota’s Department of Health and Department of Natural Resources:
Boating Guidelines

Put safety first by wearing a life jacket and by avoiding unnecessary contact with anyone during your trip.

Boat only with those in your immediate household, do not boat with friends or extended family.

Stay at least six feet from others while prepping your boat.

On the water, stay six feet away from other boats. Boats will not be allowed to tie together, as this would “constitute an illegal gathering” under the Stay at Home Order.

Do not go boating with someone who is feeling sick or has had exposure to another ill person.
Fishing Guidelines

Again, wear a life jacket and avoid unnecessary contact with anyone during your trip.

Follow all 2020 fishing regulations. Regulations have not relaxed amid the Stay at Home Order.

Maintain a social distance of at least six feet at all docks and fuel stations, and away from other boats when on the water.

Fishing for walleye and many other species will open on May 9 as scheduled, but anglers are encouraged to fish close to home on opening weekend to avoid any formation of crowds.

Do not go fishing with someone who is feeling sick or has had exposure to another ill person.
